The case for fixed double decking has never been stronger. The latest wedge-type fixed double deckers carry up 100% more load, compared to single deck equivalents, effectively halving distribution mileages, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
At the same time, fixed-deck wedges carry up to 40% more payload than stepframe powered-deck trailers, which are handicapped by both the extra weight of the onboard hydraulics and the balance of weight sitting over the rear axles (which tend to overload before the whole vehicle reaches maximum capacity). The extra payload generates mileage and operational cost savings of up to 29%. They also offer maintenance costs as much as 70% lower than powered deckers.
