Back to case studies

The Client

Thomas Ridley Foodservice provides a total foodservice solution for the catering industry, delivering a comprehensive range of chilled, ambient and frozen products, both locally and nationally. The company services a wide range of customers, such as pubs, restaurants, hotels, nursing homes, hospitals, schools and leisure facilities.

To support continued growth, the company aimed to enhance loading and storage capacity at its NDC at Bury St Edmunds, and to introduce Wedge double deck trailers on deliveries to a new DC in Kent.

What We Did

A modular warehouse extension was designed to increase loading and storage capacity at Thomas Ridley’s NDC, with a single, flat floor doorway being expanded to three bays.

The extension and V2G lifts were sealed to the warehouse front and installed directly onto the existing yard. The entire installation was completed and commissioned in less than four days, enabling the fast, safe, temperature controlled loading of Thomas Ridley’s Wedge double deckers and rigids.

Each of the loadhouse units was finished with high-specification insulated cladding and fitted with 40mm insulated composite panel doors to maintain thermal efficiencies of the warehouse.

The Results

Thomas Ridley saved over 157,000 miles and over £200,000 p.a. by the introduction of their first Wedge trailer alone. The project provided Thomas Ridley with a one-stop supply chain solution, resulting in a highly efficient, fully integrated loading and distribution model [that’s] also flexible and can adapt as [the] business expands in the future.

Testimonial

"By commencing two daily Wedge trailer trunk deliveries, we can transport the equivalent of four 13.6-metre single deck trailers on this 216-mile round trip journey. This equates to saving 432 miles per day, or 157,248 miles a year, generating an annual reduction of over 190,000kg CO2 and over £200,000 in transport costs."
