TJ Morris (Home Bargains), was founded in 1976 and has grown to become the UK’s largest independent grocer. As of 2020, it has over 500 stores and employs more than 22,000 staff – with plans to grow to 1,000 stores. To facilitate its rapid expansion, a 700,000 sq ft distribution centre was constructed at Amesbury, Wiltshire.
Transdek worked with the architects to design 900mm modular dock ramps to enable faster double-deck loading at the site. We supplied 15 5-pallet and 18-pallet double deck lifts and two vehicle cleansing lifts for the site. Each, pre-clad, plug-and-play modular double deck loadhouse was held offsite until needed in the build schedule, then fitted within 2 days.
Transdek’s lifts and 900mm docks load TJ Morris’ double deckers in two lift cycles, cutting fill times to 45 minutes, speeding up vehicle turnaround, improving safety and reducing costs. This has supported the retailers’ commitment to 100% double decking on trunk runs. Remote-access technology on the lifts has also enabled faster, mobile troubleshooting and rapid resolution of any technical issues.
By utilising a multi-skilled and well-trained core installation team, Transdek provides a highly effective one-stop project management capability. The company’s unique pre-built, modular double deck loadhouse pods also brought significant benefit to the project, allowing a streamlined delivery and fitment programme that helped reduce the overall build time and cost.
