Tesco is the largest retailer in the UK, with around 3500 stores and 27% of the grocery market share. As part of the retail giant’s drive to increase transport efficiency and cut carbon emissions, Tesco UK runs over 700 fixed double deck trailers in to its distribution fleet.
Transdek was commissioned to install double deck lifts at 200 of Tesco’s largest UK stores, to enable double deck deliveries – including sites with low canopies, level access and steep ramps. We also fitted double deck lifts at 8 of Tesco’s DC’s to facilitate more efficient, cost-effective loading.
Tesco saved c. 25m road miles by double decking to its stores. Bespoke site modifications were designed to account for steep gradients and low canopies. Every retail site was fitted within the allocated 1.5 days. DC lifts cut install times from 3 months to 3 days and capital costs by 50%. First lifts still in operation since 2006.
