Ricoh is one of the world’s leading document and IT solutions providers. In addition to its corporate technology consulting services, the company produces a wide range of innovative imaging devices, copiers, software and digital photographic equipment for both home and commercial use.
In order to consolidate recycling facilities at its ‘Green Centre’ in Wellingborough, where the Japanese owned organisation processes and recycles photocopiers, printers and other IT equipment, we were commissioned to expand the existing loading capability at the site.
What We Did
The overall aim of the project was to increase handling capacity at the site by creating a fast, effective loading and unloading solution for a single flat-floor warehouse doorway. To achieve this,we designed a modular warehouse extension with an additional three raised loading docks and dock levellers built in to a raised external docking station. The entire unit was clad and sealed to the existing warehouse front to provide a secure, environmentally protected area for loading and
A mobile dock lift was also installed in the warehouse doorway to move product between the external docking station and ground level inside the warehouse. This lift had to be easily moveable to ensure the warehouse door could be closed and locked at night to maintain the integrity of the main building’s security.
The entire solution was surface mounted eliminating the need for civil engineering works, allowing installation to be completed and commissioned within a pre-agreed four day time frame in order to minimise onsite disruption.
Based on our delivery of the project, Ricoh was able to increase its loading capability at the Wellingborough site to handle the additional, consolidated recycling services, and was thus able to achieve its plans to streamline its supply chain.
