Thomas Ridley Foodservice provides a total foodservice solution for the catering industry, delivering a comprehensive range of chilled, ambient and frozen products, both locally and nationally. The company services a wide range of customers, such as pubs, restaurants, hotels, nursing homes, hospitals, schools and leisure facilities.
To support continued growth, the company aimed to enhance loading and storage capacity at its NDC at Bury St Edmunds, and to introduce Wedge double deck trailers on deliveries to a new DC in Kent.
What We Did
We custom designed and built a multi-temperature Wedge double deck trailer capable of transporting up to 50 standard pallets or up to 90 roll cages, twice the load of a standard single deck reefer. The Wedge trailers are loaded by the V2G lifts at the NDC and offloaded by taillift at the RDC in Kent.
The trailer, which one the TCS&D Award for Innovation (2015), incorporated Transdek͛s unique, patent applied ͚Wedge͛ chassis design, which allows full-height loading on both decks, including over the slimline 76mm neck. It was also fitted with Transdek͛s patented V-Glide sash door system, with a four-part sliding insulated curtain on the inside of each deck to create additional thermal integrity.
Specified with a Thermo King ultra-green Thermoking SLXe Spectrum 3 Zone refrigeration unit and three off S3 remote evaporator units, the trailer offered three independent temperature zones with a range of -20oC to +7oC. The trailer was fitted with a two tier column taillift to facilitate unloading at the Kent RDC.
Thomas Ridley saved over 157,000 miles and over £200,000 p.a. by the introduction of their first Wedge trailer alone. The project provided Thomas Ridley with a one-stop supply chain solution, resulting in a ͞highly efficient, fully integrated loading and distribution model [that͛s] also flexible and can adapt as [the] business expands in the future.͟
