2-tonne dock lifts with extended 3-metre platforms to handle bulky products to/from raised dock areas
DFS Group is the UK’s leading sofa retail specialist, with over 124 showrooms in the UK, Republic of Ireland, The Netherlands and Spain. The company, which has manufactured and sold upholstered furniture in the UK since 1969, employs over 5,500 staff. DFS has 20 regional Customer Distribution Centres UK-wide.
DFS aimed to reduce manual handling and increase safety in the loading of their sofa suites on and off vehicles at level-access regional DC’s. Transdek designed modular, raised docking areas for each site, with a bespoke, 3-metre by 3-metre dock lift to move products between the 1200mm dock and ground level. All equipment was surface-mounted to minimise install times.
Transdek’s 2-tonne dock lifts each carry three DFS furniture racks at a time, enabling fast and efficient movement of products to and from the new raised docking areas. At the same time, manual handling has been significantly reduced. The dock lifts were fitted straight on to DFS’ warehouse floors, avoiding onsite disruption (and future dilap costs, by avoiding pits/civils).
